Abena Messina’s second half brace was enough to see Astres FC through in their delayed league 2 encounter this Saturday in the Limbe Centenary Stadium.

Just over 48 hours since the arrival of Astres FC in the league 1 was announced, they have gone ahead to grace it with a win against AS FAP that takes them on top of the league 2 table.

The first half was a little pedestrian and looked empty but the two teams picked up the steam in the second half.

Astres FC’s center forward Julien Kamta Fokou rushed his shot and missed a one on one goal scoring chance at the 47th minute.

It was FAP’s turn to put Astres under pressure a little bit of Pressure. Boris Mbarga curled a cross in for Ekiang at the 57th minute but it was too heavy even for the center forward’s outstretched neck muscles.

Coach Anicet Mbarga Foe looked to change things upfront, taking out Jose Sandjo and bringing in one of his lethal goal scorers, Abena Messina.

Just two minutes after his introduction, Abena Messina almost caught goalkeeper Christian Aristide off guard with a 65th minute free kick.

The warning signals continued from Abena Messina and just some minutes after he almost scored courtesy of the free kick, he pounced on a loose ball from the left to score the games opener at the 68th minute.

A rare chance came for AS FAP through the free kick but captain Thierry Stephane’s effort could only hit the wrong side of the net at the 84th minute.

At the 90th minute, Abena Messina got his second after a lovely combination with fellow second half substitute Christian Deugoue to put an end to the contest.

This win puts Astres FC on the driver’s seat in league 2 with 22 points while 2019 Cameroon cup beaten finalists FAP remain 4th with 21 points.
