Tonnerre Kalara Club (TKC) of Yaounde, became the first League One side this season to beat an opponent at home and away in the top tier Championship.The elite one returnees defeated Union Sportive of Douala 2-1 in one of the day 10 fixture on Sunday 24 March.
TKC bashed Union 3-0 in the first leg at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde on February 3.Their 2-1 edgy win over was thanks to goals from In-form Gregoire Nkama and Yves Eloundou Tanguy. Nlend Samuel got the consolation goal for the group A table toppers. After Sunday’s win, TKC have now moved up to 6th on the log with 11 points.
The Yaounde based club have now won 5 of their last 8 games against Union Sportive of Douala with both teams separating on a draw once. TKC have therefore maintained their superiority over Union Sportive of Douala.They’ve lost just two fixture against the Douala based side.
Since their ascension back to the elite one championship, TKC have won just 3 of their last 9 games with two draws and 4 defeats.
TKC have recorded back to back wins after suffering 4 defeats in 5 league games this season.
As it stands, only Yong Sport Academy of Bamenda are better placed to replicate a back to back win if they beat Eding Sport of the Lekie in Bamenda in a round 10 game. YOSA beat Eding 1-0 during the league’s curtain raiser in Yaounde.
TKC was the most prominent side in Cameroon in the 1980’s. They have clinched 5 national championships and 5 cup of Cameroon titles.
Created in 1934, TKC have produced one of the finnest footballers among them: Roger Milla, Rigobert Song and former world player of the year, and present president of Liberia,George Weah.
