Union Sportive Douala players in a huddle after the win over Unisport


USD beat Unisport 1-0 to go top of the relegation playoffs with 6 points, 2 goals scored and none conceded.

The delayed match day one Relegation playoffs encounter pitting Unisport against Union sportive of Douala was disputed today at the Limbe Centenary stadium.

The two sides played their first games on Sunday; Unisport ended their game on a parity base with PWD, while USD picked up their first three points of the playoffs after defeating local rivals, Astres of Douala 1-0.

Coach Walidjom Daniel made a few changes for Union, and opted for Boudega, Philippe Banen, and Jean Louis to play alongside captain Samuel Nlend, leaving out top striker Tchayi Cyrille.

The men of Jules Nyongha staggered and panicked in the first quarter of an hour. The physicality and the high pressing used against PWD was absent in this one. USD took advantage of a lackluster Unisport down the left hand side with a lovely give and go, between Nlend and Banan, that ended up with Boudega getting his second goal of the campaign at the 36th minute.

The midfield dominance caused Jules Nyongha to bring in former Victoria united man-Stephane Cedrig in place of Joel Arno just 40 minutes into the game

After the pose there were a series of attacks from Unisport but goal keeper Philemon Ghislaine re-payed in Coaches trust with some decisive stops.

Union nearly doubled their advantage when Philippe Banan once more got in the thick of things, his cross was headed millimeters untop of the upright by Loic Tenlep.

The victory means Union are now in need of just another win to consolidate topflight status.
