Dragon sportive of Yaounde and Union sportive of Douala have played a zero all tie in one of day 15 games of the league one championship. In the encounter played at the Yaounde military stadium on Sunday April 14, 2019, the two sides failed to find the back of the net, with both goalkeepers, Haschou Kerrido (Dragon) and Emile Merlin Lako (Union), pulling some stunning saves to make sure that the game ends on a parity.

The pre_match seemed to have been the exciting part of it, as the captains of the two sides coincidentally won distinctions, as best players in the league, for the month of February and March 2019. Union’s Captain, Samuel Nlend was given the distinction as the best player in the league one for the month of February, a month in which he helped his side win 2 of their 6 games in February (Union 2#0 PWD, Colombe 0#2 Union), drawing 2 (New stars 1#1 Union, Union 0#0 Dragon), and lost 2 (TKC 3#0Union, Avion 1#0 Union). The Nassara Gamakia skipper bagged home the sum of 100,000FCFA, from the Cameroon professional league.

Dragon of Yaounde’s captain, Serge Yvan Ekollo Malolo also received a similar distinction, this time around for the best player of the month of March 2019, though the cha cha cha boy’s skipper was not there to receive his prize. According to latest information, the inform skipper left the country, for negotiations with a foreign club. In the month of March 2019, Dragon played 4 games winning just 1 (Dragon 3#1 Apejes, a game in which Ekollo Malolo scored a brace), drawing 1 (Dragon 1#1 Colombe) and suffered 2 defeats (PWD 1#0 Dragon, Avion 2#0 Dragon). Just like Samuel Nlend, officials of Dragon Sportive of yaounde, received a check worth 100,000 FCFA, on behalf of Ekollo Malolo.

Serge Yvan Ekollo Malolo has scored 8 out of Dragon’s 18 goals this season, and his absence was greatly felt against Union. Dragon’s president, Kome Max said after the game that “Ekollo Malolo was not there, and it was difficult to organize our game. Players are different. Two players are never the same. So you see it was not the same thing compared to when Ekollo is there”. His absence did not only deprive Dragon of the much needed experience, but he also lost his place at the top of the golden boot race, to Daouda Kamilou.

Samuel Nlend on his part, has been on target 4 times for Union this season, but was forced off against Dragon, through an injury. The away tie ended with a similar zero all score line. The two sides are now hoping to make it for the playoffs.
