APEJES of Mfou has defeated New stars of Douala 2#0 in a delayed day five encounter of the league one championship played this Friday, at the Yaoundé Omnisport stadium.
A 40th minute goal from Paulin Banda Kounou and a late penalty from Robert Tamatieu, settled matters for APEJES in an encounter that was largely lacking in intensity and quality expected. Lane Lakem started on the bench for New Stars, but Jacques Olih, Leonard Acha Acha and Nelson Morkeu failed to impress against their former employers.
APEJES’ young shot stopper Junior Hecube Ntone was not troubled through out his first 90 minutes this season, as coach Sokba Oumarou judged Nathan Yontsi returning from Camp with the Under 23 lions only good for the bench. The experience of Robert Tamatieu and Brice Owona, was Vital, as APEJES kept goalkeeper Arnaud Fotso busy. Even the coming in of captain Lane Lakem in the second half, could not help matters for New stars, as coach Patrice Fotso watched helplessly as his sides three match unbeaten run in the championship came to an end.
To New Stars captain, Ronald Lane Lakem, it was a difficult game, though he thinks they didn’t respect their opponents, and never played seriously.
The victory has taken APEJES above New stars on the league’s standings. APEJES now lodged themselves in top three of Pool A, with 10 points, just one point behind league leaders Cotonsport and Union sportive of Douala. New stars now occupies the fourth position with 10 points, but with a minus five goals.
Apejes will on Monday play Dragon of Yaoundé in a center regional Derby, counting for day 8 action, while New stars is exempted from the 8th playing day.
