Teenage sensation Hugo Ekitike won a penalty and assisted in his side 2-0 victory in Saturday’s French Ligue 1 championship game against struggling AS Saint Etienne of Yvan Neyou and Harold Moukoudi.
The teenage sensation in the form of his life won a 28th minute penalty from which was converted by El Bilal Touré in a dramatic fixture in which Saint Etienne finished with ten men.
Reims took the one goal lead to the break but Saint Etienne looked daring though the goal touch was lacking.
Upon return, Saint Etienne brought on Yvan Neyou to strengthen in midfield.
The Greens gave their all to get the equalizer but Reims defended resolutely.
As the visitors pushed for the equalizer, their pockets were picked by a combination of Nathanaël Mbuku and Hugo Ekitike as the former scored to make it 2-0.
The victory is Reims’ fifth of the season with Hugo being at the heart of at least three.
The French-born Cameroonian striker takes his season tally to seven goals and two assist in 16 games this season.
The teenager is his club’s lead scorer in the league this term.
Hugo has been a revelation for the French Ligue 1 side this season, having been promoted to the first team from the Club’s feeder team in the build-up to the 2020-2021.
Reims is ranked 14th with 22 points from 18 games this season and will be away to Reims Sainte Anne on Sunday.
