Teenage Cameroon descent defender, Billy Koumetio – on the books of English Premier League side Liverpool defender Billy Koumetio has joined Austrian Bundesliga outfit Austria Vienna, subject to international clearance.
The centre-back moves to the Austrian Bundesliga ahead of 2022-23 to get valuable playing time as he looks to consolidate a place in the first team football and guarantee playing time something he’s struggled for at the Anfield.
Koumetio move to Liverpool in 2018 and hasn’t had enough first-team football under German manager Jürgen Klopp. He has been in Liverpool’s matchday squad twice but restricted to just two appearances since debuting in a Champions League tie against FC Midtjylland in December 2020.
The highlight of career since arriving Anfield was his quarter final input against Liecester City last season in the FA Cup.
Manfred Schimdt guided Austria Wien to third in last season’s Bundesliga, behind champions Red Bull Salzburg and second seeded Sturm Graz, qualifying for this season’s UEFA Europa League playoffs.
A member of the U18s team that reached the FA Youth Cup final in two seasons ago, Koumetio will certainly enjoy his time in the Bundesliga.
