Laussane Sport Academy of Yaounde, has eliminated legendary Canon Sportif of Yaounde, in the 16th final of the 2022 Cameroon cup.
Both Lausanne and Canon finished third in the Elite two and Elite one championships respectively in the just ended campaign.
Laussane SA defeated Soliel of Garoua 4#2 on penalties in the 32nd final to set up a 16th final clash with Canon, who on their part eliminated four time winners Tonnerre Kalara club in the 32nd final.
In a hard battling game at the Ngoa Ekelle Stadium on Sunday afternoon, the KpaKum were held goalless at pause by a resolute Laussane side.
James Djaoyang and co struggled to get a breakthrough in the second segment, but it was rather Laussane SA who created a stunner, as Dorol Nsongo Tinfack, scored at the 87 minute, to secure a one_nil win.
Canon Sportif of Yaounde who are record winners of the Cameroon cup (11 times), have now joined the likes of defending Champions PWD Social Football Club of Bamenda out of the competition.
“it is clear that the season wasn’t the best. If we take into the objectives that were set, then it is a very bad season,” Canon’s coach Minkreo Birwe said after the game.
“It is a season to forget. I think we lacked the spirit of competitors. Globally we did not win matches which were decisive and today we saw it again, conceding a goal in less than three minutes to the end from small errors,” Birwe added.
To coach Samuel Noufessi, it is another big step for Laussane.
“When you play against a team that you have coached some of the players of the opposing team, it is different, because you know some small details about them, and we exploited it in the second half,” Samuel Noufessi of Lausanne who was part of Canon’s coaching staff last season said.
In the other 16th final games, APEJES defeated Panthère Sportive of Nde 1#0.
Aigle Royal of the Menoua came from behind to beat Foundation APEJES 3#1
Colombe of the Dja and Lobo thrashed AS Real of Bertoua 8#1.
Other 16th final games will come up on Monday July 18.
