Former Indomitable Lions coach Antonio Conceicao is suing the country for over one billion FCFA for the early termination of his contract with the Cameroon national team. In a letter seen by kick442.com, the coach through his attorney Jonas Vallina says the amount concerns the “pending salaries until February 28, 2022 and the compensation amount by an early unilateral termination in the total amount of both of one million, five hundred and sixty-six thousand euros net.”
The deadline for the payment of the said amount to Conceicao as seen on the letter should have expired as it was set for March 13. It is still uncertain as to whether authorities at FECAFOOT and the Ministry of Sports and Physical education will honour this request from Conceicao, who led Cameroon to third place at the just concluded Africa Cup of Nations on home soil.
It should be recalled that Antonio Conceicao was appointed to the position by the Minister of Sports and Physical education and in August 2021 saw his contract extended by a further two years. But the pressure from the new management of FECAFOOT saw Conceicao losing his job after failing to win the AFCON on home soil. This decision was greatly condemned by several sports personalities looking at his track record since taking the helms of the Cameroon national team.
The Coaching domain of the Cameroon National team has frequently faced with the aspect of coaches taking the country to court due to breaches of contract. Former coaches Hugo Broos, Clarence Seedorf and Patrick Kluivert all took Cameroon to FIFA and was compel to cough out huge amounts of money as damages.
