74-year-old Issa Hayatou after serving the Continent Soccer regulatory organ for thirty years before 2017 has been named honorary president of the Confederation of African Football.
The excutive committee of CAF on Thursday evening made the proposal from the meeting thus handing a chance to the Cameroon football administrator to return to Cairo.
The football administration icon had been out of CAF since 2017 when he lost to Malagasy Ahmad Ahmad in a shocking presidential election.
Hayatou comes with huge experience. He has been at the helm of FIFA’s Presidency in 2015 following corruption and financial misconducts tabled against then President Sepp Blatter.
The Garoua native, was in charge till February 2016, marked by the arrival of Italian born Gianni Infatinno emerged as president of the World Soccer governing Organ.
CAF records holds that he remains the ever long serving president of the African Soccer governing body.
