AS Vita Club of Kinshasa Congo have suffered an emphatic 0-3 defeat at home to holders Al Ahly Cairo this Tuesday in match-day four of the 2020-2021 CAF Champions League.
Cameroon’s Simon Omossola and his Vita Club colleagues were made to pay for their misses as two early Al Ahly goals from Sherif, Magdy and substitute T Mohamed did the job.
Vita Club deserved to score in the fixture, but unfortunately on two occasions the most they could do is to hit the woodwork.
Forward Sherif took advantage of the some lazy defending from AS Vita in the 6th minute of the game to put the defending champions ahead before Magdy added the second 13 minutes later.
Vita Club were forced to readjust their formation to tighten the midfield dominated by Aliou Dieng for Ahly in the opening exchanges.
The home side then dominated the game but failed to hit the target from their seven attempts in the entire first segment.
Vita Club however found the upright with a last minute short in the first segment but it wasn’t looking like a good day in the office as by the time the referee blastee his whistle for the break it was Al Ahly leading by two goals to nil with just 40% of the possession.
Returning for the second segment, Vita Club made double substitution including bringing in Mumbele and improved putting together a good spell of possession but failing to hit the target in all that.
With his side in difficulties getting hold of the ball, coach Pitso Mitsomane brought in Congolese striker Walter Bwalya and Egyptian Mohamed Tahrek.
With 12 minutes from time, Bwalya combined with Tahrek to score Al Ahly’s third to kill any hopes of a comeback for the host.
Though Al Ahly missed another goal scoring opportunity, the game stayed the three score till full-time.
The win puts the Red Devils on the second spot on the log with seven points from four games while Vita Club have a point in three outings ahead of their trip to Tanzania to challenge group leaders Simba SC who are unbeaten with ten points from four games.
Ahly returns home to wait for bottom-placed Al Mereikh in match-day five of the competition.
