Wydad Athletic Club pulled the chest nut out of the fire to beat GD Sagrada Esperanca in a game that decided the fate of the two teams in terms of progressing to the next round of the competition.
The Casablanca side defeated Esperanca in an usual fashion in a game that seemed to be going the way of the home side until eight minutes to go when the table turned.
The Angolans controlled the game as expected, being the team who needed the win the most. They were in the ascendency scoring in the first half through J. Christóvâo Paciéncia in 30th minutes.
However, the Moroccans who looked without steam initially turned the tide in the second half to hurt the home fans as Zouhair El Moutaraji put the ball at the back of the net in the 82nd minutes.
Jovel Tsumu will later thrust the final dagger in the heart of the home team as his 90 minutes plus added time header caught the goalkeeper napping to rattle the net and send the Moroccan representatives to the next round.
Meanwhile, it was a different story for another representative of Angola, Athletico Petroleos as they secured a goaless draw against Zamalek was enough for them to progress to next round and join Wydad Athletic Club as the two qualifying teams from group D.
