Djouboutian champion Arta Solar 7 have suffered another early exit from the CAF Champions League.
Solar 7 and its star sturdded side including former Cameroon internationals Alexander Song and Danny Nounkeu were eliminated in the first preliminary round of the CAF Champions League on Friday following their goalless draw away to Al Merreikh of Sudan in the second-leg fixture.
Solar failed to overturn the 2-1 deficit recorded at home a week earlier despite picking their best XI for the game at the Bahir Dar Stadium in Ethiopia.
The result means the Djibouti champions who were eliminated from the competition at the same stage last season will have to wait patiently for another season before taking their domestic success to the continental scene.
In the past 24 months, Solar 7 in their efforts to achieve consistent success have made some big name signings including the recruitment of former Premier League stars Diafra Sakho and Salomon Kalou. These moves have yielded back-to-back domestic titles but the club has failed to make beyond the first preliminary round let alone replicate the domestic success abroad.
Captain Song and co will have to get a few other things right before achieving continental success sooner than later.
