Cotonsport midfield enforcer Thierry Tchuente was the hero on Sunday afternoon as Cotonsport of Garoua recorded an important one-nil win against AS Sonidep in Niamey in the first-leg of the CAF Confederation cup.
Both sides wasted guilt-edge opportunities in the first segment of the game.
At the break it was still goalless but looking like a game that had at least a goal.
Cotonsport return for the second segment at the better side.
Midfield maestro Thierry Tchuente finally put the visitors ahead in the 72nd minute.
The goal gave the already resolute Cotonsport defense more motivation to defend till the end.
The game ended on a one-nil score in favor of Felix Oukine and mates.
Cotonsport have kept a clean sheet in all three away games in the competition this season and return home again with an advantage ahead of the second leg game in Garoua in a week’s time.
A win on aggregate for the Cotonites will see them return to the group stage of the CAF interclub competitions for the first time since 2017.
