Cotonsport of Garoua midfielder Bouba Abdouraman Daman was the hero this Sunday as Cotonsport of Garoua recorded an important one-nil win against NASPA Stars FC at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.
The boys of coach Souleymanou Aboubakar displayed their quality in the opening 15 minutes of the game but NASPA Stars defended well stopping multiple incursions from the Cotonites.
The Garoua giants however found the breakthrough in the 16th minute when Bouba Abdouraman Daman picked up a lose ball on the edge of the box and scored following an Arnaud Sibiri corner.
The goal gave Cotonsport the motivation to keep pressing for more.
Five minutes later, Goni Ali had a chance to make it two from another corner but his header went wide.
Cotonsport continued their comfortable movement of the ball across the park causing coach Mohamed Fathi to make double substitutions before the break.
The change didn’t change a thing about the scoreline situation of the game and in the break it was one-nil for Cotonsport.
Early into the second segment, NASPA Stars FC hit the woodwork indicating their attacking intent in the half.
That chanced turned out to be the only real opportunity for the host but Cotonsport had a handful of chances.
In the 60th minute Hassana Mamadou made a great solo run into the NASPA Stars box and unleashed a fine effort which was stopped by some fantastic goalkeeping.
Two minutes later, Lambert Ngueme Araina missed a seater which could have buried the hopes of their host.
Substitute Oukoumou Obimpat and Lambert Ngueme Araina traded misses of guilt-edge opportunities in the final quarter of the game thanks to an excellent goalkeeping from the home keeper.
The goal scorer Daman was replaced with five minutes of the game left as coach Souleymanou Aboubakar opted to bring in center-half Herve Ngomo.
The game ended on the one-nil score leaving Cotonsport with all three points.
The victory takes the Club’s points tally to six points from three games.
The Cotonites are leaders of group B ahead of this evening’s clash pitting RS Berkane to JS Kabylie in Morocco.
The Cotonites return home to face NASPA Stars FC in match-day four of the 2020-2021 CAF Confederation cup on April 11 in Garoua.
