Moroccan outfit, Raja Athletic Club of Casablanca have qualified for the quarter finals of the 2020/2021 CAF Confederations Cup. This follows the team’s 3 nil win over Pyramid FC of Egypt in match day 4 of group D staged on Sunday April 11, 2021.
The visitors opened the scoring at the 15th minute via a header from Congolese forward, Fabrice Ngoma.
Raja increased their lead at the 42nd minute through another Congolese with a beautiful finish from Ben Malango who put the visiting outfit on a comforting footing with his second goal against the Egyptian outfit in a week -following his goal during the away leg in Casablanca a week earlier.
The Botola Pro League club laid the match to rest with a second half killer from the Most Valuable Player and Top Scorer of the 2020 CHAN competition in Cameroon, Soufiane Rahimi. The youngster netted in the third 13 minutes to full time after a long run from the visitor’s segment at the June 30 Stadium before powering pass Pyramids FC keeper Sherif Ahmed Ekramy after a shaky show from host’s forward, Ramadan Sobhi.
Sunday’s 3 nil win sees the Moroccan outfit going through to the quarter finals with two games to spare, tallying 12 points in 4 matches. The team stands as one of very few clubs still to concede in the competition this season.
Their dominance has seen last year’s finalists, Pyramids FC of Egypt tied on second spot with 6 points alongside Nkana FC of Zambia as Namungo FC of Tanzania remain rock bottom.
With a final eight spot assured, RAJA which currently seats second in the Moroccan League with 19 points, 6 short of leaders Wydad of Casablanca, will now be focusing on bettering its domestic performances having recorded a win in their last 5 league games. This, as they look forward to enter the “Gentle’s Club” (The last eight) in similar fashion as displayed at the group phase.
