▪️Coach Aboubakar Souleymanou discloses that Cotonsport has secured licenses for all their players
▪️Felix Oukine back in the folds ahead of their game against Al Masry
The head coach of Cameroon champions cotonsport of Garoua, Aboubakar Souleymanou, has revealed that his side has secured more licenses for their players, ahead of their Group C CAF Confederation cup clash against Egyptian side Al Masry.
Cotonsport missed out many new signings in their preliminary round games against ORAPA United and FC Nouadhibou. But now coach Aboubakar brings good news.
“CAF has delivered all our licenses, because from the start we had difficulties because of some documents that reached CAF late, but now everything is in order and all the players are there. Tomorrow it’s sure we will have new players as compared to the last game, some of the new ones will be on the bench even if they’re internationals. We have young players who don’t want to give up, they want to really prove that they’re mature and need just confidence to show that,” Aboubakar Souleymanou told the media during his pre_match press conference at the Roumde Adjia stadium on Saturday.
“This season we want to do better because the management is on our side and they are really putting us at ease. We have many young players this season as compared to last year, with a good number coming from our training center and we recruited some from other clubs. We have a good squad and I think we will fight,” he added.
Amongst the many new players likely to feature in tomorrow’s game, is former captain Felix Oukine, who is making his return to the team.
“At the end of last season, Oukine’s agent promised to get him a club out of the country, but till today nothing has happened. So in order to permit him to play, we decided to bring him back in to the squad and when the right time comes for him to go, he can go.
Cotonsport’s last official game was on December 05, 2021, at the Douala Reunification stadium, where they defeated FC Nouadhibou two nil thanks to a brace from Marou Souaibou.
Exactly 69 days without an official game, cotonsport will be counting on the few friendly games they have played, to be match fit against Al Masry.
“Without the championship, what can we do. We had played many friendly matches. For us it is very sufficient to correct everything, but not enough. If we had the championship, it would have added more, but we will do with what we have. That doesn’t mean that we go to the field without an ambition. Our ambition is to go far enough in this competition and we’re ready to do it.
“As concerns our opponents, we have watched some images of the team and they’re a very good team but at home we have to also be a big team. We have to win all our home games. Tomorrow’s game is decisive and we will do everything to get a good results.
Cotonsport reached the last four of the same competition last season, but now find themselves in what Aboubakar Souleymanou describes as the group of death.
“We can call this a group of death, because after Al Masry, we have TP Mazembe and AS Otoho. Those are great teams in the continent. Impossible is not Cameroon. It is not because we’re a small club, or with one difficulty or the other, that we have to give up. When you see the clubs management sacrificing enormously, you have to repay their efforts. And we have a young group of players, wake them up even at midnight, they will be ready to play. So we have the fighting spirit.
