Lambert Ngueme Areina has scored his sixth goal of the 2020-2021 CAF Confederation cup in the first-leg of the competition’s quarter-final to hand Cotonsport a slim advantage.
The first five minutes of the game saw both settling into the context.
The first real highlight of the game came in the fourth minute when an advancing Etta Bawak was dispossessed and on the break for AS Jaraaf Ngombe Etame who partnered Solomon Banga in the heart of the defense deliberately stopped the ball with the hand to give away a free kick that was wasted.
Center-back Cheikh Kone brought down Lambert Ngueme Araina breaking for Cotonsport and was booked in the 6th minute. Arnaud Sibiri picked Mamadou Hassana from the resulting set-piece but his header came off the post.
The next 15 minutes of the saw both sides settle into the contest with much of the ball in the heart of the midfield.
The score was goalless till the 25th minutes when the referee stopped the game for the usual water break.
Felix Oukine found Ngueme Araina in the box unmarked with a good ball but a timely defensive intervention stopped the incursion.
Cheikh Kone brought down Tombi Alemi in the 36th minute with a misplaced tackle which earned him a second yellow and expulsion.
The resulting free kick was well dealt with by the visitors.
Coach Cheikh Gueye of ASC Jaraaf kept his side unchanged unchanged after going down to 10.
The score remained goalless till the end of the first segment.
Coach Cheikh Gueye introduced Seka Sissoko in the beginning of the second segment as they looked to stabilize their team against a more purposeful Cotonsport of Garoua.
A fine 49th minute great cross from Etta Bawak Thomas met Felix Oukine whose shot on goal was saved by goalkeeper Pape Diaye.
Bawak had another chance barely a minute later.
Osmane Mbenge came on in place of Souleymane Diallo in the 53rd as ASC Jaraaf added fresh legs to their personel.
The visiting side won a 54th minute corner which comfortable dealt with.
Jean Emile Bokande had a fine opportunity to score the opener but the Jaraaf forward somehow put it off target.
Etame Ngombe bailed Cotonsport out of trouble by clearing off the line after a goalkeeper mixed up from Narcisse Nlend which gave away possession in the box.
A fine 68th minute header from Thierry Tchuente brought out a great save from goalkeeper Pape Ndiaye.
Cotonsport dominated most of the attacking movements of the game the game but until the final 15 minutes there goal eluded the boys of coach Souleymanou Aboubakar.
Kamilou Daouda came on in the final 13 minutes of regulation time.
Moursou Jean Eric and Oukoumou Obimpat came on with eight minutes left as the Cotonites kept pressing.
A fine 87th minute cross from Mamadou Hassana was toe-poke pass goalkeeper Pape Ndiaye in the 89th minute by Lambert Ngueme Araina who scored his sixth goal of this season’s competition.
The game stayed on the 1-0 score till the end thus handing Cotonsport a one-nil advantage going into the return-leg game next weekend in Thies-Senegal.
