Cotonsport of Garoua have bowed out of the 2021-2022 CAF Confederation Cup following their 0-2 defeat in the hands of Egyptian side Al Masry on Sunday at the Borg El Arab Stadium.
Mohammed Abdel Latif and Ahmed Alaa scored in each half to hand deserved three points to the host in an afternoon of missed chances.
Coton’s inefficiency in front of goal was their undoing all afternoon as though they were second best to Al Masry they should have had at least a goal through either Marou Souaibou or Wassou Goue but it wasn’t to be.
Al Masry’s latest win ends Coton’s chances and hopes of being in the quarter final as they move to nine points and stay second to leaders TP Mazembe who have ten points to their credit.
The Egyptians and Congolese are certain about a place in the last eight as either first or second in group C.
Kamilou and his Cotonsport mates thus bow out in the group stages, this failing to meet last season’s semi final feat.
Coton’s players will leave Egypt on Monday to return home and prepare for the start of the domestic season as they face Eding Sport in their first League game on Thursday.
