In group B, Libyan side Al-Ittihad defeated Orlando Pirates of South Africa by three goals to two to win their first group match of the CAF Confederation Cup.
Al-Ittihad, at the Matyrs of February Stadium came all out gun blazing and giving their visitors a high intensity game from the blast of the whistle to the end.
A continuous press by the home team later results in a goal in the 14th minutes through Sanad Al Warfali.
The Buccaneers came back into the game in the 26th minutes after a well taken shot by Shandu B which was too much to handle for the goalkeeper. It was one all at this time and It was game on from then.
The Tripoli side responded immediately scoring the second through Eisa M. in the 27th minutes to restore their lead.
The home side continued to remain the better side until Sandu scored his second of the day beating the goalkeeper from close range after a scramble in the box at the dead of half time. That ended the pulsating first half of the game.
Eight minutes into the second phase Al Khouja O. broke whatever seemed like a respite for the Bucs as he scored the third goal to help the home team regain the lead.
Pirates piled up pressure for an equaliser, but this time Al-Ittihad were not going to be beaten for the third time.
The other teams in the group match ended two nil in favour of JS Saoura of Algeria against Royal Leopards of Eswatini.
An early first half goal by Hamidi in the 9th minutes from the spot and a last gasp goal from Hammia M. sealed the maximum points for the Algerian side.
It is Saoura’s first win in the group stage having lost to Orlando Pirate by two goals to nil in their first match.
