Determine Girls will represent Liberia in the inaugural edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League following their 4-1 victory over second-placed Blanco FC at the Tusa Field mini-stadium in Gardnersville on 17 April.
The win confirmed the unbeaten league leaders as champions of the 2020/21 Orange Women’s Division league as they lift their first-ever title since their establishment in 2005.
The win extended their lead atop the table to 12 points with a single game left to be played – securing 13 wins, and 2 draws.
On the night, forward Paulinho Agbostu and Guinean international Bountou Sylla scored a brace apiece to seal an historic triumph.
Blanco FC, Agatha Nimene scored a goal but could only increase her goal tally to 22.
Coach Robertson Warner and his team were presented a symbolic cheque of L$600,000 as champions of the Women’s Division.
Meanwhile, the champions will also receive US$30,000, an amount that was reserved as support to the team that will represent Liberia in the CAF Women’s champions league. The fund is from the universal solidarity grant of US$500,000 allocated specifically to women’s football as part of FIFA’s COVID-19 Relief Plan to the football community globally.
In keeping with the format released by CAF for the women’s champions league, Determine Girls will participate in the qualifying phase of the WAFU Zone “A” Regional Championship slated for June 2021 to secure a post for the finals.
The regional championship will see champions from Liberia, Cape Verde, The Gambia, Guinea, Mali, Senegal, Mauritania and Sierra Leone competing for a single spot in the finals.
