Reports emerging from sources say, amongst the top issues to animate debates in next week’s video conference CAF executive committee meeting is the advent of the CAF Women’s Champions League competition.
The female version of the competition dedicated for the domestic league winners is one aspect that multiple stakeholders have been calling for its introduction by CAF.
Last-year Equatorial Guinea’s legendary captain Salome Nke made a clarion call on the current CAF to prioritize the introduction of the inter-club competition [Champions League] over increase in the number of nations to participate in the Women’s national.
“I wish CAF does more for Women’s football. We also need the African Women’s Champions League. We are not comparing with Europe, but I think we need many competitions for Women to keep us up to speed. Sometimes, its so boring after winning a national championship, the club doesn’t have a bigger competition outside the country to test its strength,” Salome Nke told kick442.com close to a year ago.
If the above position is anything to go by, then the creation of the Champions League competition will be welcomed.
The CAF executive committee meeting has been scheduled for June 30 through video conference, and CAF president Ahmad Ahmad will have a press conference after the event.
CAF is also expected to discuss the future of multiple competitions including the 2020 African Women’s Cup of Nations scheduled for November-December 2020.
Women’s football is waiting anxiously with all eyes at CAF.
