Cotonsport of Garoua will begin training on January 3,2022 ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup Group stage games and the domestic season.
Cameroon’s lone representatives in the CAF competition after Fovu of Baham were booted out in the champions league, qualified to the group stage after a 2-0 aggregate win over Mauritania’s FC Nouadhibou thanks to Souaibou Marou who scored the brace.
Coton Sport reached the semifinals last season and were knocked out by Algerian side JS Kabylie 5-1 on aggregate.
The 16 time champions of the Cameroon league now know their opponents as they have been paired in Group C of the CAF Confederation Cup table against TP Mazembe (DR Congo)Al Masry(Egypt)and As Otoho(Togo)
This is the outcome of the draw that was done in Cairo, Egypt on December 28, 2021.
The boys of coach Souleymanou Aboubakar’s team will start preparing to face these tough opponents after the new year celebrations.
The Coach Souleymane Aboubakar said after the draws that the goal of the team is to do better than last season. “The draw results are there. At this stage of the competition, we expect all tough opponents. We fell on hard bones. We know Masry, Mazembe and Otoho well. They are great teams. We’re the little thumb, but our goal is to go as far as possible and improve our performance from last season. It will not be easy but we will hang on,” he said.
The resumption ends a one month break for Kamilou Daouda and his mates.
Cotonsport will begin their campaign at home against Al Masry of Egypt on February 13,2022.
