The two (2) remaining Nigerian representatives in CAF Club Competition will know their fate later this weekend as the return leg of CAF Champions League and Confederations Cup qualifying stage take centre stage.
CAF Champions League
Two (2) times champions, Enyimba International were forced to a barren draw by Al Hilal of Sudan. The Nigerian champions will have to avoid defeat with score draw or goalless draw to force the lottery of penalty shoot out to be able to qualify. Any unfavourable result will see Enyimba drop to CAF second tier Club Competition, CAF Confederations Cup as they travel to Omdurhman.
CAF Confederation Cup
Enugu Rangers still have their destiny in their own hands going into the return leg of the qualifying round game against AS Pelican of Gabon. The Enugu based side were beaten 2-1 away at Libreville and needs a 1-0 or 2-0 win to be able to qualify. A draw will automatically eliminate the club from the competition while a 2-1 victory will take the game to extra time and possibly penalty kicks.
With the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) not in session, many football pundits have blamed the lackluster performance of Nigerian clubsides on the continent to match rustiness as most clubs play pre season friendlies as they await the draws and new date for new season.
