Wydad came through Zamalek in a one nil edge on Friday at the Cairo Stadium, on match day 4 of group D TotalEnergies CAF Champions league. Coming from a 3-1 win at home, the reds entered the game with the full hopes to boost their chances of qualifying for quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League.
The first half of the game witnessed a balanced performance between the two teams, with Zamalek putting the reds under pressure with a litany of attacks. Wydad’s goalkeeper Ahmed Reda Tagnaouti was more focused and present during the first half and saved the reds from recurrent goals.
The second half kicked- off with a sensational netting for Wydad, by Yahya Jabrane from a penalty at the 46th minute. The Zamalek players tried their best to get back to the encounter, with the hope to score an equalizer and regain their spirit. But Wydad’s strong defensive wall and Tagnaouti’s impressive goalkeeping saw the whites in need.
Wydad now controls Group D, with 9 points ahead of Petro Luanda on 7 points. Meanwhile, Zamalek holds 4 points and Sagrada Esperanca with one point.
