Teungueth FC qualify for the group stage of the competition for the very first time after winning 3-1 on penalties against last year’s semi-finalist, Raja Casablanca.
The Muhammad V Stadium was in terrible condition during the match as the pitch could not absorb the water dropped on it as a result of the rain, thereby making it waterlogged and not football friendly, but the game continued afterwards and finished goalless after the regulation time leaving the aggregate scores at 0-0 after the first leg in Senegal also ended goalless.
The game then went straight into penalty shootout as the (Regulations III. 13 & 14) states that:
“In the qualifying rounds, each tie will be played on a home-and-away two-legged basis. If the aggregate score is tied after the second leg, the away goals rule will be applied, and if still tied, extra time will not be played, and the penalty shoot-out will be used to determine the winner.”
Teungueth then won the penalty shootout 3-1 to become the first Senegalese team to qualify for the group stages in seventeen years and also for the very first time in their history.
Due to the poor condition of the Muhammed V Stadium, Moroccan League last season’s runners up, Wydad Casablanca have now requested that their match against Stade Malien de Bamako slated for today be postponed or moved to another Stadium.
