The group C encounter between the two Tunisian giants, Esperance Sportive De Tunis and Etoile Sportive De Sahel ended in a stalemate situation at the Stade Rades on Saturday.
Ali Jemal of Etoile was the protagonist of the day, making saves that proved helpful for Etoile to leave away from home with a point.
Esperance had the opportunity to win the game, but everything they put into the game ended up in futility.
In the other group game, Algerian league champions, CR Belouizdad ran away with a one goal margin win against Botswana side Jwaneng Galaxy.
Kheireddine Merzougui’s two second half late goals did the magic as Belouizdad won 2-1 to join Esperance at the summit of the group with five points apiece.
Merzougui scored in the 74th minutes after a first half that didn’t produce too many action scenes. However, Gilbert Baruti restored parity for that host in the 84th minutes.
Merzougui was not done yet as he broke the hearts of the home fans with a late second s winner to ensure the Algerians go home with all points.
