Senegalese club Génération Foot are on their way back to their country after refusing to play Zamalek at Borg Al Arab stadium in Alexandria.
The match was initially supposed to take place on Saturday at Petrosport stadium in Cairo. But Generation Foot were informed by CAF just 24 hours before kick-off that the game will be postponed and the location will be changed. The decision from CAF sparked outrage among club officials.
The Senegalese club however reacted by going to Petrosport stadium on Saturday, assuming no rearrangements have been made. Zamalek officials were then forced to intervene in order to convince Generation Foot to go back to their hotel.
After negotiations, Generation Foot did not agree to the terms of CAF and refused to travel to Alexandria to face Zamalek at Borg Al Arab Stadium despite being offered transportation.
Zamalek have lost the first encounter against Generation Foot in the first leg of the CAF Champions League’s first round as they were beaten 2-1 earlier this month.
Under normal circumstances and according to the laws of the game, Generation Foot were supposed to be notified at least 7 days before.
The refusal of Generation Foot to play means that Zamalek will now get an easy ride into the group stages unless otherwise.
