As African Football waits in limbo and hopes that the CoronaVirus pandemic will give way for the return of life as usual on the continent, there is genuine concerns about the future of multiple sports events on the continent including the 2020 CAF Champions League final.
We understand the Confederation of African Football is not against the option of staging it’s major football events as initially planned, when it possible.
One of these events is the 2020 CAF Champions League final which was scheduled for the Japoma Stadium in Douala-Cameroon on the 25th of this month.
Having sanctioned an indefinite postponement of the final last month,kick442.com understands the Confederation of African Football,CAF still subscribes to the option of having the event in Cameroon but won’t undermine the chance of taking the event to another venue, if they provide a safer habitats or greater pre-conditions for football especially giving that Cameroon recently abandoned it’s domestic championships because of the health threats of the CoronaVirus rife.
We have gathered that Morocco [host this year’s CAF Confederation cup final] may end up getting the CAF Champions League final as it’s second event if they convince CAF with their strategies to resume the domestic championship.
Kick442.com has gathered from sources in the North African nation that, it’s football federation led by president Faouzi Lekjaa who doubles as the first vice president of CAF has employed a set of strategies for the resumption of the domestic championships in Morocco. We understand if these majors produce the desired outcome [zero spread of the CoronaVirus] then it will be a bargain to take the champions final to Morocco and same strategies will be employed in final.
The majors for the resumption of the Botola Leagues includes testing of actors and subsequent lodging in different centers for the period of the competition amongst others.
We have gathered that, if Cameroon can’t provide the needed environment and health guarantees. Rwanda has also been earmarked another option giving the country’s receptive travel policy and the fact that Sports will resume in the country in September.
Rwanda is also in line as the next option because it is one of the least hit country’s on the continent.
Having said that, CAF has the onus to go-pass the semi final huddle before negotiating the bend of the final in very safe conditions in the interest of all and sundry.
Rwanda and Morocco were initially linked with the responsibility to host the event before it was attributed to Cameroon’s Japoma Stadium just before the outbreak of the CoronaVirus pandemic.
