There were some interesting results in the first qualifying rounds first leg of the CAF Confederations Cup on Wednesday, with numbers of away victory recorded.
Rivers United of Nigeria against all odds made a bold statement in South Africa against Bloemfontein Celtic, winning 2-0 away from home, making it the best result a Nigerian club side have gotten away from in the continent this season.
Their neighbors, Coton Sport of Cameroon also got a similar result away from home when they beat Green Eagles of Zambia 2-0.
In Tunisia, US Monastir got the better of Al Ahly Tripoli of Libya 2-0 as Moroccan second division side, Tihad Casablanca walloped Esae FC of Benin 4-0.
San Pedro FC of Cote D’Ivoire pipped ASC Jaraaf of Senegal 1-0 in Dakar, same with Motema Pembe of Congo who won 1-0 away from home against F.C. Bravos do Maquis of Angola.
RSB Berkane of Morocco held Tevrag Zeina of Mauritania to a goalless draw in their backyard.
The match between Es Setif of Tunisia and Chad’s Renaissance FC Ndjamena was cancelled as a result of the dispute between Chad’s Minister of Youth and Sports and the President of the Federation Football Club which led to the closure of the Mohamed Idris Oya Stadium
And also the match between Uganda KCCA and Rwanda side AS Kigali was called off by CAF has called off due to a high number of Covid-19 positive cases in the Ugandan team. AS Kigali has been awarded a 2-0 win.
CAF only allows teams to honor a fixture if they have 15 squad members among them, two goalkeepers.
