Cameroonian defender, Che Malong says his club Coton Sport will put up excellent performances in the current CAF Confederations Cup campaign despite landing a relatively tough group stage pairing.
In an exclusive interview with Kick442.com shortly after Tuesday’s group stage draws, the defensive youngster declared maximum confidence and optimism on his team’s qualities and readiness for the continental showpiece.
“I believe it won’t be an easy battle but I trust my team mates and the Technical staff of the team. We (Coton Sport) will do the unbelievable this time. Our opponents won’t be an easy side but I know we are ready and prepared to face any opponent that comes our way.” Che Malong partly said.
The former Union of Douala defender who joint the Coton Farmers late this year, also expressed his personal excitement and readiness to face the various outfits in the pool especially five time CAF Champions League holders TP Mazembe which he cited as one of the teams to look out for in the pool.
“The draw is a good one for both I and my team mates. It will be a very good experience for me since it’s my first time to partake in the competition.
“TP Mazembe is a team I have heard so much about and it’s a great team. It’s just unfortunate that it had to find itself this time in the CAF Cup but it doesn’t mean it’s an easy team to face” The defender declared.
“It will be a great challenge for me to face teams like this since it’s my first time but I believe it won’t be difficult to overcome the challenge because I am being accompanied by people who know and have participated in the competition.” Che Malong concluded while reiterating on the capability of Coton Sports’ playing squad and coaching team which he believed will ensure his success and that of the 16 time Cameroon Elite 1 champions.
Coton Sport of Garoua, still in search of its first continental title, will compete in Group C of the group stage of the 2021/2022 CAF Confederations Cup following draws for the competition held on Tuesday December 28, 2021.
The Cotonites will face five time holders, TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Egyptian outfit Al Masry and AS Otoho d’Oyo of Congo Brazzaville when the group stage take place between February and April next year.
These, with hopes of bettering a record they inked last season when the team reached the semifinal of the competition before bowing out to Algeria heavyweights, JS Kabylie.
