Cameroon’s lone representative in the CAF inter club competition cotonsport of Garoua, has held their official training session at the Roumde Adjia stadium ahead of their first group stage game on Sunday.
Cotonsport will host Egyptian outfit Al Masry at the Roumde Adjia stadium on Sunday afternoon, as coach Aboubakar Souleymanou and his boys try to replicate their last year’s performance in the same competition, which saw them reach the semi finals.
Hitherto, the 16_times Cameroon champions have been training at their center in Ngalbidjé, but at their official recognizance session at the main play ground of Roumde Adjia this Friday afternoon.
The session started at 2pm, was an opportunity for the cotonites to lay down their game plan for Sunday. Just 15 minutes of the training session was opened to the press.
Cotonsport’s opponents for Sunday Al Masry, touched down in Garoua on Friday afternoon from Douala, where they have been since Wednesday and trained on Thursday at the Reunification stadium in Douala.
Al Masry’s official training at the Roumde Adjia stadium, will take place on Saturday as from 2pm.
Their Road to the group stage
Cotonsport was exempted from the first preliminary round of the CAF Confederation cup, and only began their journey in the second round, where they dispatched ORAPA United on away goal aggregate. ORAPA United won the away game in Botswana two goals to one, but cotonsport won one nil in Garoua during the return fixture.
In the next round, cotonsport overpowered Nouadhibou FC two nil on aggregate. The away game in Mauritania ended nil nil, but cotonsport won two zero in Garoua, thanks to a brace from Marou Souaibou.
For Al Masry, the defeated URA of Uganda one zero on aggregate in the second preliminary round, before beating Rivers United of Nigeria on away goal advantage, after both legs of the tie ended two all on aggregate. Al Masry had scored a goal in their their two one defeat in Nigeria, then won one nil in the return game in Egypt.
Cotonsport and Al Masry are in group C alongside TP Mazembe of DR Congo and AS OTÔHO D’OYO of Guinea.
