Ashanti Gold of Ghana has been dumped out of the CAF Confederations cup after losing by 2-0 against Berkane in Morocco.

The Ghanaians had the advantage after their 3-2 win on home patch but they seemed to collapse infront of a rejuvenated Berkane in the return leg.

Renaissance of Berkane looked a much changed side – not with the players, but, the new gaffer Tarik Sektioui looked sharper in dishing out effective tactical instructions to his charges. Ashanti Gold ran into stage fright in the reversed fixture at the Berkane Municipal stadium to say the very least.

Renaissance Berkane on home soil consistently put Ashanti Gold under pressure in the early stages of the game.

Due to sheer pressure on the backline of the Ghanaians, the curtain was raised at the 33rd minute courtesy a spectacular over-head kick from Issoufou Dayo.

Just when coach Richardo de Rocha was preparing his half time talks trailing 1-0, there was a change of plans. Zaid Krouch aimed for the far post with a lovely bend on the ball that went beyond the helpless hands of Frank Boateng.

Burkinabe international Alain Traore was proving a complete menace in the second segment and nearly got into the act of scoring himself, with his headed attempt going a whisker away.

The defeat of AshGold now means Asante Kotoko are the lone continental representatives from Ghana, as they prepare to go into action on Sunday carrying a 2-0 advantage away to Etoile of Sahel.
