With one last match day to wrap up the group stages, all the teams in group A stand the chance of progressing to the next stage while all is set already in group B as JS Kabaylie and Coton Sport are through to the next round.
Orlando Pirates leads group A with 9 points closely followed by Al-Ahly Benghazi with 7 points. Enyimba and Es Setif are 3rd and 4th with 6 and 5 points respectively.
With Orlando Pirates set to visit Enyimba for the final fixture, a draw for the boys from Nelson Mandela will send them through but a defeat will mean the head-to-head rule will come to place, so any defeats order than a one nil loss.
Still in the group, ES Setif host Al-Ahly Benghazi in Algeria. With both teams standing the chance to qualify, a victory for Setif means they’re through to the next round not minding the outcome between Enyimba and Orlando Pirates while for Al-Ahly to book a place in the quarter-finals, they’ll have to beat ES Setif in Algeria while also hoping Enyimba loses to Pirates.
As expected the group as lived up to expectations and with fingers crossed, we await the final results from the last match day.
With JS Kabaylie and Coton Sport already qualified for the next round both teams go into the final round of matches with the aim of topping the charts.
JS Kabaylie currently leads the table although equal on points with Coton Sport but an home and away win against the Cameroon side means they have a better head-to-head and only a defeat for them against NAPSA Star while Coton Sport win against RSB Berkane will see them drop to second place.
Just like group B, Jaraaf and CS Sfaxien already progress from group C. With Jaraaf on 10 points, CS Sfaxien on 9 points both teams are set to clash in Tunisia on the final match day to determine who tops the group.
Five wins in five games makes Raja Casablanca the best team of the group stages and they could finish the group stages with 100% record if they beat Nkana FC.
Meanwhile Nkana FC are out of the Confederations Cup no matter what they play against Raja on the final match day. Although a win will put them on equal points with Pyramids who occupies the second spot but even if Pyramids loses their final match they’ll still progress because of their better head-to-head record against Nkana FC.
Pyramids defeated Nkana FC home and away 2-0, 1-0 and with that they’re also through to the next round as runner up to Raja Casablanca.
With qualifiers from group B to D already confirmed going into the final match day, all eyes will be on group A where all teams stand the chance of progressing.
