The 2020 edition of the African Women’s Cup of Nations, AWCON has been cancelled, can report.

This new development came amidst the COVID-19 pandemic which led to the postponement of the competition qualifiers which were initially slated for April and June 2020.

Confederation of African Football, CAF during its Executive Committee meeting on Tuesday, June 30, 2020, announced the cancellation of AWCON 2020.

The competition was also initially expected to be held in the Congo Republic until the withdrawal.

36 countries entered for the qualifying stage of the tournament which is the highest in the history of the competition. had earlier reported that the elimination phase of the next AWCON qualifiers might take place between September and October 2020 due to COVID-19 pandemic.
