Head Coach of the Bayana Bayana Queens of South Africa, Desiree Ellis, has been voted Female Coach of the year 2022 for the second time in a roll, during the CAF Awards Ceremony held at Rabat,Morocco on Thursday, July 21.
Ellis’ progress in the ongoing Women African Nations Cup, contributed greatly to her win after successfully taking South Africa to the finals of the Competition.
South Africa will have to face host, Morocco at the grand finale of the 2022 AWCON, in her 12th participation in the history of this competition.
The girls of Coach Ellis have been very impressive and have gone five straight matches unbeaten since the start of the Competition.
The tactician guided her girls to victory from the very start of the Competition where they beat defending Champions, Nigeria 2-1, thrashed Burundi 3-1 and saw off Botswana 1-0 to reach the last eight.
Even Zambia were no match for Coach Ellis’ girls. They got booted out of the Competition by South Africa at the 94th minute in the quarter finals.
Desiree Ellis is former Captain of the South African National Team, has for the second consecutive time brought Bayana Bayana Queens closer to the title after ending as runners up in the 2018 edition.
She was awarded CAF Women’s Coach of the Year in 2018 after her team finished second in the African Women Cup of Nations and qualified for the Women’s World Cup for the first time.
South Africa is tipped Favourite to win this 14th edition of the Competition, having portrayed a convincing and satisfactory performance so far, conceding just two goals in their games played.
Ellis was appointed interim coach of the South Africa women’s national team in 2016 after Vera Pauw resigned following the team’s group stage exit at the 2016 Olympics.
In February 2018, she took the job on permanent basis anf guided the team their first-ever FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2019.
