27-year-old Cameroonian Mike Fondop-Talum has joined League One (3rd English Division) side Burton Albion until the end of the season.
The signing of Mike Fondop comes after his short-term contract expired with national League side Aldershot Town. Fondop has been training with Burton Albion for the past one week after leaving Aldershot Town.
“I am very, very excited. I could not sleep on Thursday night just because of the news I was told (about signing),” Fondop told iFollow Brewers.
“I cannot wait to hit the ground running and to show to the club and the fans what I am capable of doing…. All the sessions were technical with good players, and I feel that my level is going to rise, and I am going to learn a lot from them.”
Fondop made his first appearance for his new side this Saturday as his team Burton Albion lost 0-3 at home to Sunderland. Fondop came in at the 70mins as he replaced Lucas Akins.
The player had spent the 2019/2020 football season in Chesterfield and during that campaign was the top scorer with 11 goals in 30 appearances. He has been involved with a host of clubs in England such as Wrexham, Oxford City and Margate.
The Brewers are hoping that striker Mike Fondonp can add more impetus to the side of manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s attack as they look to climb the table.
“He is a big boy, a good target man, but also mobile,” Burton Albion Manager Jimmy Floyd told iFollow Brewers.
“He is also someone who can come off the bench and he can play differently and we can be more direct. He has a nose for goal, he is a threat in the air and we are happy he has signed a short-term contract and in the summer we will look at it again.”
Mike Fondop and Burton Albion currently sit bottom of League One with 22 points after 27 games played, with two games in hand. The team will be in action again on Tuesday, February 23 against Charlton Athletic.
