Burkina Faso v Uganda: This is the Most Important Game – Burkina Faso’s Bertrand Traore

Burkina Faso looks to qualify for the Total 2021 AFCON with a victory over Uganda. With 8 points after four games, a victory over Uganda will see the side do something which they failed to do for the 2019 edition and that is booking a ticket for the continental showpiece.

Burkina Faso faces second-place Uganda today March 24 at 14:00 local time at the St Mary’s Stadium. Uganda looked to count on home advantage, though the coronavirus has made home teams feel like away teams with limited or no fans.

“It is always a nice feeling to get into the national team and get back with the boys. We are a group of brothers; friends and I feel good as it was my first session with the team,” Burkina Faso Forward Bertrand Traore said in the prelude to this crucial encounter.

“This is the most important one in the whole campaign because we can get the qualification. We know how important it is (and we are going to work for it).”

A draw for both teams will not be a bad one with the last games of utmost importance. Burkina Faso will be on home soil against South Sudan needing to avoid a defeat to qualify for the AFCON. Meantime, Uganda will face Malawi in their last qualifying game.

Burkina Faso hopes to be part of the Cameroon expedition after missing out on the 2019 edition in Egypt. It was a sad August 4th stadium in Ouagadougou.  The Stallions, third in the 2017 edition, failed to overhaul the Mourabitounes of Mauritania. The task was almost impossible for Burkina Faso, who was deprived of Charles Kabore, their captain suspended for the match.

“It was painful for us; for the fans and the whole country to not take part in the AFCON. (Today) is the big day for us and we are going to do our best,” Burkina Faso Forward Bertrand Traore added.

Burkina Faso currently has 8 points after four games played. The country has won two of its games and recorded draws in the others. Uganda is second with 7 points and Malawi third with 4 points and the bottom of the table is South Sudan with three points.
