The Republic of Congo has made it clear that they will not be ready to host the 2020 Africa Women Cup of Nations. Congo Brazzaville was given the hosting rights of the tournament which will be in its 12th edition (14th edition if tournaments without hosts are included), but they have now informed the confederation of African Football, CAF that they will not meet up the required standards.

In a letter to CAF dated July 8, 2019, the Congolese Football federation states that they were given the hosting rights, at a time when they were not yet given the related specifications. The letter also indicates that after examining the specifications needed to host the competition, and given the present financial context in which the country is, they will not be capable of staging the Pan African women’s Football jamboree.

The Republic of Congo was named host of 2020 event, in September 2018, which gave them an automatic ticket for the event. CAF is yet to make a statement on the matter, and it is still to be seen if sanctions will be meted on Congo, as it’s always the case.
