34 year old Cameroonian Born center Referee, Antoine Max Depadoux Effa has been has been handed a 1 year Ban by the CAF referees commission.
A statement on the CAF website from the Commission stated;
“Following the weak and unsatisfactory performance which had an impact on the final result of the Match Day 4 Total CAF Confederation Cup between Renaissance Sportive de Berkane and Raja Club Athletic played on 3 March 2019 in Berkane, the CAF Referees Committee has decided to suspend referee Antoine MAX DEPADOUX EFFA ESSOUMA for one year.”
The referee put up a disappointing performance last Sunday in the round 4 CAF Confederation Cup game in Berkane. The Referee denied a clear goal and penalty for defending champions Raja Casablanca in the game. The Moroccan derby clash in the CAF club competition ended zero all between Renaissance Sportif Berkane and visiting Raja Casablanca.
Max was recently amongst 12 Referees who were selected to officiate games in the just ended 2019 Under 20 AFCON tournament in Niger. A young referee who had had the trust of CAF in some high profile games will have to wait in the sidelines for a year from today.
It is not the first time the commission is doing so,Zambian celebrated Referee Janny Sikazwe had a similar faith after a dismal display in the semi final last year’s CAF champions League in Tunis between Premiero Augosto and Esperance of Tunis.
Max currently takes charge of top flight matches,he was the 4th official in the 2016 Cameroon Cup Final that pitted Bamboutos FC to APEJES of Mfou.
