Angola Under 17 boss, Goncalves Pedro has been appointed the interim coach of the Angola national side, replacing former coach Srdijan Vasilsevic from Serbia. Pedro has taken the makeshift gaffer of the team.

The announcement was made by Angola FA president Artur Almeida this August 17 confirming the end of a 2 year spell for Srdijan ( December 2017 – August 2019).

The new man at the helm is not new to many in the country. Coach Goncalves is getting the enviable job as a reminiscence of his exploits with local clubs and his efforts in the development of youth football in the country.

He helped Angola finish third at the 2019 Under 17 AFCON in Tanzania earning a World Cup spot for the country.

To whom much is given, a thousand expectations lay on his shoulders. Coach Goncalves would have to combine his Under 17 responsibilities with That of the senior side.

His first test on the touch line is the home and away fixture pitting Angola to Gambia on September 2 and 10 respectively.

The clash would be telling on if he can maintain the hopes and aspirations of making the 2022 FIFA world cup to be hosted by Qatar.
