Former DR Congo senior selection coach Florent Ibenge has been named head coach of the DR Congo 2020 African Nations Championship team.
The announcement was made this Tuesday by officials of the Congolese Football Federation (FECOFOOT)
Ibenge returns to the role he previously handled, taking over from Pamphile Mihayo.
However, Mihayo stsys in the technical staff as assistant to Ibenge alongside Duala Lopembe and goalkeeper trainer Eugène Bulayima.
59-year old Ibenge was coach of local side AS Vita before his appointment and has to combine that job with that of the CHAN team.
DR Congo, 2009 and 2016 winners of the competition have had a somewhat timid preparation for the competition penciled for January 16 to February 6 across four cities in Cameroon and are hoping the return of the man who guided them to success in 2016 in Rwanda could be the magic move.
DR Congo, Niger, Libya and neighbors Congo Republic are in group B of the upcoming competition.
