Sofiane Lokar- the skipper of Algerian second tier side Mouloudia Saida has passed away this Saturday after a heart attack.
Mouloudia’s League game against Oran Association this Christmas day ended up being a sorry event.
The 30-year old midfielder collapsed on the pitch midway into the game and attempts by the medical staff to save his life proved futile.
According to sources, The player collided with another player 26 minutes into the first-half. Lokar however resumed play thanks to the first aid he received from the medical staff. Unfortunately, his return to the field did not last long. He fell again without contact in the 35th minute. A second intervention by the medical staff, as they tried to help him regain consciousness was unsuccessful. They resulted to rush Lokar to the hospital. Unfortunately the player died on their way to the hospital.
“It is not known if the player died as a result of the contact with our goalkeeper or as a result of cardiac arrest,” the president of ASMO told the press while weeping.
The player who got married to his long time girlfriend only last Saturday is survived by his wife and two kids.
The sad event has overshadowed the game’s results which was 1-0 in favour of Oran Association.
