Former Intermediate Lions of Cameroon forward Alain Thierry Akono Akono on the books of Chabab Mohammedia came off the bench to score a stunning goal in his side’s 1-2 defeat away to title chasing Wydad Casablanca in Match-Day 20 of the Moroccan top-flight championship.
The forward who recently joined the club was considered only fit enough to start from the bench as his side went into the game on a run of three games without defeat.
Both sides struggled in the opening 45 minutes but Wydad but came back better in the second-half.
Two goals in quick succession from Reda Jaadi in the 62nd minute and Muaid Ellafi ten minutes later gave the host a comfortable lead.
Akono came on in the 75th minute in place of forward Lamlaoui and used just ten minutes to show his class. The 25-year old scored a wonderful volley in the 85th minute to make it 2-1.
The game stayed at 2-1 till the end, thus amounting to an eighth defeat for Akono and his mates.
Chabab are eighth on the log with 26 points from 20 games while Wydad are runaway leaders with 43 points from the same number of matches.
