Denizens of different neighborhoods in Kumba and Limbe benefitted from the outreach activities of the the BONE and Kick442 teams on Tuesday.
The initiative dubbed B.O.N.E and Kick442 versus Covid-19 was launched on Monday in the Tiko Municipality in the Southwest Region of Cameroon with the aim of combating the spread of the deadly CoronaVirus pandemic.
BONE stands for Buea United, Options Sports Academy, Nkamanyi FI Kumba and EEMSA Tiko have put resources together to distribute over 600 medically certified nose masks to distribute to footballers and other actors in Tiko, Buea, Limbe and Kumba (which are the base of the above-mentioned clubs)
Officials of Nkamanyi FI of Kumba led by president Nkamanyi Terence and those of Options Sports of Limbe led by president Neba Henry met the football family of their neighborhoods throughout the day of Tuesday offering free medical nose-masks and orientation on the need to follow the guides instituted by specialized authorities to combat the dreaded Covid-19.
Destiny restoration football academy and EEMSA of Tiko joined the distribution team in Limbe as they move around different neighborhoods beginning with persons around the Options Sports Academy house before heading to different joins in town noted for the presence of footballers in Limbe.
President Neba expressed his satisfaction at the end of the first day of the process in Limbe.
“We are doing this as our own little contribution for the well-being of our immediate environment. As amateur football clubs we feel the obligation to reach out to the environment that provides players to us especially at a time when they need us most.
The group has programned to distribute over 600 nose masks amongst other items to combat the spread of the virus but above all help the public follow the guides to prevent the propagation of the virus.
“We have started with nose-masks because we know the importance of this now. Health authorities have made it mandatory,that tells us how important it is in the fight. We are not only distributing the masks, we ensure we talk to the population to understand and follow the prevention measures. It is a time to use our popularity in football to influence the behavior of others, we are doing just that. We intend to do more, but for now we start with the masks as our collaborators are doing in other parts of the region. We hope to do more in the days ahead”: Nkamanyi Terence stated
The initiative will continue in the days ahead in Tiko, Buea, Limbe and Kumba.
Buea will have a bigger event on Saturday with the president of Buea United FC Kadji Valery and FECAFOOT Southwest IT personnel Tatu Engelbert leading the BONE team towards football actors in the Buea Municipality.
