The death of Nasarawa United defender, Chieme Martins during Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Match Day 23 fixture against Katsina United continue to paint the day as “Black Sunday” in Nigerian football History.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) regrets the incidence in Lafia involving a player of Nasarawa United and further condole the immediate family of the late player and the football stakeholders at large.
The NFF has in conjunction with the Ministry of Sports engaged the LMC and reviewed the situation. As an immediate first step, it has directed that no further match be played except there is full compliment of the medical equipments and personnel as provided in the NFF Club Licensing Regulations.
All Match Commissioners and the host FA are to ensure they inspect all the facilities including carrying out test runs before giving go-ahead for any match to be played.
The Management, Coaches, Players and Staff of Niger Tornadoes Football Club of Minna wishes to condole with the Family of late Martins Chineme a defender with Nasarawa United Fc who slumped during an NPFL MatchDay23 encounter against Katsina United in Lafia and died in the hospital.
In a statement issued by the Media Officer of Niger Tornadoes Alhassan Mohammed Kutigi reads ” Our condolences goes to the bereaved Family of late Chineme Martins, Nasarawa United Football Club, Government and the entire good people of Nasarawa State for the sad loss. May God grand the player an eternal rest in perfect peace”

The management of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), has condoled with the management of NPFL side, Nasarawa United and the entire Nigeria football fraternity over the demise of the Lafia based side’s defender, Chineme Martins.
Martins slumped on the pitch during Sunday’s NPFL Match day 23 tie involving his team and Katsina United, played at the Lafia Township Stadium and was later confirmed dead after efforts to revive him proved abortive.
In a condolence message, the Oluyole Warriors’ management, expressed deep sorrow over the development, describing it as heartbreaking.
“We are grieved by the death of Chineme Martins, who died on Sunday while playing for his team.
“It is disheartening to see another talent give up the ghost in such a sad way, when we are yet to get over the unfortunate demise of Remo Stars vice captain, Tiamiyu Kazeem.
“We pray to God to grant the departed, eternal rest and give his family, colleagues, the government and people of Nasarawa State, the fortitude to bear the great loss.

Just as the football fraternity is yet to get over the untimely demise of Tiamiyu Kazeem, the deceased Remo Stars Assistant Captain, who passed away few weeks ago , another promising defender of Nasarawa United, Chineme Martins, lost his life after colliding with an opponent while in action for his team.
In his reacting over the heart bleeding and very unfortunate incidence, the Acting General Manager of Crown FC , Mr Oyeleye Oyekunle, who spoke on behalf of the Ajilete Warriors family described the death of the great Chineme Martins as a huge shock, disheartening and sorrowful.
“With a very pained heart we share in your grief at this dark moments over the demise of Chineme Martins, who kicked the bucket while in action for your team on Sunday”.
” I wept internally when I read the news but who are we to challenge God? While thanking God because in all situations we should appreciate Him, it is our prayer that God will grant the late player heavenly rest, give his family, colleagues and the entire great football loving people of Nasarawa State the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss”, he said.
This is the second death of players in the Nigeria League of recent and it is believed that this shall be the last time the football fraternity will experience such saddening and heartbreaking moment.
