Belgian forward Romelu Menama Lukaku Bolingoli has completed his protracted move to Italian giants Inter of Milan from Manchester United.
The 26 year old Antwerp born striker signed a five year contract with Inter for a club record fee understood to be €80 million.
He has been handed the No.9 jersey previously worn by Argentine forward Mauro Icardi. The Argentine forward has been announced to be on his way out of the San Siro, this further suggests his future lies elsewhere.
Icardi who is linked with Juve and Napoli had made the No.9 jersey his at Inter since joining them in 2013.
Other Inter greats to have worn the jersey in the past 20 years are Samuel Eto’o, Hernan Credpo, Julio Cruz, Diego Forlán, Ronaldo da Lima and Ivan Zamorano.
Lukaku moved to Manchester United in 2017 from Everton and scored 42 goals for them in 96 appearances in all competitions with 77 of them as a starter.
He had also played for Anderlecht, Chelsea, West Bromwich Albion(loan) before Everton in 2014 (first on loan from Chelsea in 2013 before deal was made permanent).
The Belgian international record goal scorer with 48 goals 81 caps justified his choice after forcing a move award from Old Trafford.
“I chose Inter because of the project of the club. I think Inter are moving towards the right direction and I needed a new challenge,” the Belgian said.
“I want to help this team do great things here. I am motivated to do well. We’ll remain focused. I hope we can get excellent results this season.
He also paid tribute to new Inter coach Antonio Conte and to the management of the Nerazzuri.
“He is the best coach in the world [Conte]. He gives his players the chance to improve. His career speaks for him. I also wish to thank the club’s President Steven Zhang and Giuseppe Marotta for the confidence they have in me. I am happy to be here,” the player told reporters.
He could make his debut for Inter on Saturday in their pre-season friendly against Valencia.
