Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Champions, Bayelsa Queens on Saturday defeated Ampem Darkoa of Ghana 3-0 to win the 2022 West Africa Football Union Zone B (WAFU-B) Zonal Qualifiers for the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League.
All three goals scored by Bayelsa Queens came in the first half.
Miracle Joseph opened the scoring for the Prosperity Girls in the 11th minute from the penalty spot.
Flourish Sabastine increased the lead in the 19th minute before Chinyere Igbomalu converted the third goal three minutes to the end of the first half.
The win ensured that Bayelsa Queens pick the solitary ticket from WAFU-B Zone for the 2022 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League.
The team also avenged last year’s defeat of Nigeria’s Rivers Angels to another Ghanaian side, Hasaacas Ladies FC in the final of the same tournament.
Bayelsa Queens joined, ASFAR FC (Morocco), Wadi Degla (Egypt), Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies (South Africa), Green Buffaloes (Zambia), Determine Girls (Liberia), and Simba Queens of Tanzania to qualify for the main tournament holding in Morocco next month.
They will be joined by the winners of UNIFFAC (Central Africa) Zonal Qualifiers to complete an eight-team tournament.
Earlier, Africa Sport of Ivory Coast earned a 4-0 win over Espoir FC of Benin Republic to win the third place match with Abrougoua Abekie scoring two goals.
Adjoua Edwige Sandrine and Cousso Esperance also find the back of the net for the host, Africa Sport.
