Bayelsa Queens picked their first win at the ongoing Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six as they defeated Edo Queens 3-0 in both side’s final game of the season with nothing at stake.
It took just 20 minutes for Bayelsa Queens to score the opening goal of the game when Zainab Olapade’s free-kick gave the Gloryland Girls the lead at Otunba Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.
Two minutes later, Joy Bokiri’s low-driven effort was saved by Udoka before Sunday Juliet responded from the rebound to double Bayelsa Queen’s lead.
In the 55th minute, Juliet Sunday got her second and Bayelsa Queens’s third goal as she maneuvers through two Edo Queen’s defenders before dribbling Udoka to slot the ball at the back of the net.
Bayelsa Queens ended the Super Six with five points from five games while Edo Queens will return to Benin City without a point.
The final set of games on Sunday between Delta Queens and FC Robo Queens as well as Rivers Angels and Sunshine Queen’s duel will determine the League Champions and Nigeria’s representative at the CAF Women’s Champions League.
Rivers Angels lead the table with eight points and a superior goal difference ahead of Delta Queens (8 points), FC Robo Queens (7 points), and Sunshine Queens (7 points).
