2021/2022 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership winners, Bayelsa Queens have been drawn to play Ghana’s league Champions, Ampem Darkoa in the WAFU-B Zonal Qualifiers for the 2022 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League.
The draw which took place in Egypt on Wednesday pitted Bayelsa Queens in Group B alongside Ampem Darkoa (Ghana), USFA (Burkina Faso), and Athleta FC (Togo).
Group A comprises the host, AS D’Abidjan (Cote d’Ivoire), AS Police (Niger Republic), and Espoir FC (Benin Republic).
Holders, Hasaacas Ladies of Ghana didn’t qualify for this year’s Zonal Qualifiers after it was dethroned of the league title by Ampem Darkoa.
Hasaacas Ladies defeated Rivers Angels of Nigeria 3-1 in the final of the maiden WAFU-B Zonal Qualifiers in 2021.
Both finalists didn’t make it to this year’s edition.
Unlike last year where WAFU-B had two representatives as the zone with defending WAFCON Champions, Nigeria, only the winner of this year’s edition will represent WAFU-B at the main tournament in Egypt.
COSAFA (Southern Africa region) will have two representatives after Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies won the maiden TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League in 2021.
